Membership Classes and Benefits

 

All members receive free access to our Society newsletter, which contains a variety of dynamic content like job and internship opportunities, health tips, career advice, exclusive interviews, a letter from our president, and much more!  Members will also receive discounted prices for our annual conference registration.

 

Interested in becoming a member?  Click here to fill out a membership application for the appropriate membership type, and our Membership Services Chair will review the application to verify your information.  Once your application has been accepted after you have paid the membership dues, you will officially be a member of the Society for Black Brain and Behavioral Scientists!  Don’t worry, the application is no pressure; we just want to know more about who you are and make sure you’re listed under the right type of membership.

 

Below are the membership classifications and some more information on benefits:

 

Student Membership– This type of membership applies to both undergraduate and graduate students who have confirmed enrollment at an accredited institution.  Benefits of this membership classification are reduced membership fees (dues), eligibility for the Society’s mentorship program, the ability to apply for student scholarships and participate in student workshops, voting privileges and much more.  Membership Dues: $10/year

Staff Membership–  This type of membership applies to those employed as staff members in research programs who have yet to receive a doctorate (with the exception of post-doctoral scholars and fellows).  Examples of positions to which this would apply are lab manager, lab technician, research specialist, research assistant, or research analyst, etc.  Benefits of this membership classification include reduced membership fees (dues), access to professional development advice and workshops, the ability to apply for research grants within the Society, exclusive networking events, eligibility for the Society’s mentorship program, voting privileges, and much more.  Membership Dues: $25/year

Professional Membership– This type of membership applies to those who have received a doctoral degree at an accredited institution and who conduct original research in the neural, cognitive, and behavioral sciences outside of academia.  Examples of positions to which this would apply are research psychologist, research professional, research scientist, program director, etc.  Benefits to this type of membership include voting privileges, networking opportunities, the ability to apply for research grants within the Society, access to exclusive member training and workshops, eligibility for the Society’s mentorship program, and much more.   Membership Dues: $50/year

Faculty Membership– This type of membership applies to those who have received their doctorate and are employed at the faculty level at an accredited academic institution.  Examples of positions to which this would apply are assistant professor, adjunct professor, associate professor, etc.  Benefits to this type of membership include opportunities to network and present research, voting privileges, opportunities for collaboration, access to exclusive member training and workshops, the ability to participate in the Society’s mentorship program, and much more.  Membership Dues: $50/year

Institutional Membership– This type of membership is for academic institutions who are compelled to connect with the Society and are passionate about our mission.  Institutional members of the Society are able to advertise and provide information about their schools, programs, initiatives, and other offerings to our members.  An institutional membership is a great way for academic institutions to connect with members for student, staff, and faculty positions that may be available at their schools.  Institutional members can also advertise job openings to our members through our jobs board.  Membership Dues: $300/year

Corporate Membership– This type of membership provides corporations, both for- and non-profit, access to our pool of members for advertising purposes.  Corporate members can announce products, deals, and other services that may be of interest to Society members and will be preferred partners of the Society.  Corporate members can also advertise job openings to our members through our jobs board.  Membership Dues: $500/year, discounts for nonprofits and small businesses.

General Interest Membership– This type of membership applies to those who are in high school or above and not necessarily on the career path to perform research in the neural or behavioral sciences, but who are generally interested in or want to know more about the ideas involved.  If you are interested in learning more about the brain, behavior, or cognition (how we think), then this membership is for you.  You will learn a host of interesting facts and ways that neuroscience and psychology affect and apply to our everyday lives.  General members will also be provided with information about how to get started on the path to research brain and behavioral sciences, if interested.  Benefits of this type of membership include awareness events, a general interest newsletter, scientific information, and career resources.  General Interest membership is free!
